Coaching Services
Susan sees herself as an expert advocate who can successfully coach workplace bullies
to realize the impact of their behavior, and thus change that behavior for the better.

The coaching process can take six months or more, and includes the individual’s supervisor as the on-site coach who works in tandem with Dr. Strauss to manage and alter aberrant behaviors. Dr. Strauss teaches the supervisor strategies for working with the individual in question; she also takes responsibility for confronting the individual regarding their intrinsic denial of others’ perceptions and feedback about their style of communication or conduct. Specific communication strategies are shared with the individual client, with “homework” assignments used as dynamic methods for active self-exploration and learning.
Coaching is a process used to guide abrasive leaders and employees, often called bullies, to alter their actions to create and sustain a respectful and dignified work environment. Without coaching (and perhaps other interventions), the bully’s misconduct interferes with employee and organizational effectiveness.
Bullies are not always aware of their misconduct and the wounds inflicted upon fellow employees. When coaching an abusive manager or employee, Dr. Strauss has observed that they sometimes lack psychological insight into their behavior and its impact; they may have grown up with this behavior as acceptable and often have not been confronted about it in the workplace. As a result, aberrant workplace behavior has become their norm of interaction. Barring a psychological disorder, coaching the abusive manager and employee is an effective intervention in changing their behavior.
